The popular boyband, One Direction, has only been in the industry for two years total and in that short amount of time, they have accomplished something few musical acts ever achieve.
The band reached a new milestone as they reached 12 million sales on their singles, albums, and DVDs worldwide in less than a year. One Direction‘s worldwide sales have topped 8 million singles, 3 million albums and a million DVDs.
The bands’s debut album Up All Night has sold over 3 million copies worldwide and has hit No.1 in 16 different countries, which include the US where they became the 1st UK band ever to debut at No.1 on the US Billboard chart. Currently, the album is the top selling debut album of 2012 in the US.
The album is certified platinum in the US with over 1 million sales, while the hit single “What Makes You Beautiful” has already sold over 3 million copies in the US alone. Moreover, the band's live concert DVD is 3x platinum in the US and the biggest selling music DVD of the year in the UK.
“We are obviously ecstatic and incredibly humbled by our award today. We have an incredible team of people around us who have helped us achieve this and above all we would like to thank our fans. We owe all our success to them,” member Liam Payne said.
